So, you want to know about me, eh? If your answer is yes to that question, read on. Otherwise, exit the browser window, unplug your computer, take it outside, throw it on the ground, and stomp on it.
This Website
This website was created on October 29, 2008 to be more of a personal website than my other one which ended up having a bunch of content that really had nothing to do with me on it; however, at the time I created it, this was just a site co-existing with my main site on Floft (floft.net). Now this is the site hosted on the Floft.net domain. I decided I didn't want to have a website sitting on Floft.net that was never updated, so I just combined the two of them into the one you are reading right now.
The Logo Thing
That thing up at the top of this page, the top left corner, says Garrett. It is my name with me sitting on the E typing on a computer which rests on the two T's. I thought that up on October 27, 2008 (just in case you were wondering the exact time it was at...). It is marvelous, is it not? I was trying to think up a creative signature and that resulted from it, although I haven't signed my name like that once due to the difficulty in people reading it.
Question: What does FLOFT stand for?
Answer: Truck Full of Learning and Fun
You may be wondering where "Floft" and "Truck Full of Learning and Fun" came from (which is now no longer visible on this site). Since the word software has the "oft" in it, I decided I wanted to have an "oft" in my domain name. After that I looked up domain names that I came up with "oft" in it until I found some that weren't taken. The shortest one that I came up with that sounded decent was Floft. Then when I was actually building my website, I decided the heading needed more than just one word. I decided to put a picture of a truck on my website which caused me to notice that "A Truck Full of Learning and Fun" (a backwards acronym) fit right along with Floft. I decided to stick with it even though lots of people think it makes no sense.
Family
I have a mom, a dad, and one brother. My dad is a software engineer, and my mom is a stay-at-home mom who takes care of our house, pets, yard, etc. My brother is a student just like me. If you count animals as family, there are also two cats and a dog. One of our cats is really dumb, but the other one is quite intelligent. The dog is just a normal dog.
School
I go to a school in the Pacific Northwest. It is not extremely large, but I don't mind. I have pretty good grades, but I don't get 100% on everything, so there's room for improvement. I like all of my classes. I especially enjoy Geometry and Computers. I am working on a "top secret" project in computer class which everybody knows about...which is quite fun.
Religious Views
I'm a Seventh Day Adventist. I would say my church website, but since that would give a pretty give pretty good precision to where I live, I won't say that. Actually, that wouldn't necessarily give too good of precision since some people from quite a ways away from the church are members and attend regularly.
Interests
I tend to be found on the computer doing a variety of things including programming, drawing, photo editing, writting music, and doing school work. I also enjoy several outdoor activities such as hiking, running, playing many different sports, camping, backpacking, astronomy, and trying to learn survival skills. Also, at the moment I enjoy playing the violin and harmonica and hand-cooing.
Mathematics--the best class
I have no clue if people know this, but my favorite class is math. I like doing Algebra because I always use it in programming. I also like solving problems, which is pretty much what programming is, so I like doing proofs in Geometry. Proofs seem like programming practice for me since programming is just taking your givens and figuring out how to make a program to get the final outcome you want. I hate graphing (as in drawing the graph on paper, I don't mind doing stuff with graphs on computers), but that is really the only thing I don't like about math.
Computer Programming
One of my main interests remains the computer, one of the reasons I have this website. This is not a big surprise to some of you. I know a variety of languages, but I won't list them because I know some better than others, and I'm not going to classify which languages I consider I "know" or just know how to read or something. I know languages to create websites, GUI applications, write scripts for Linux, etc. Programming is just.....fun.
Photography
Recently I have been quite interested in taking lovely photographs. I have many of them on this website: Pictures. The ones like "Washington Park" are the photos I actually like. I have started taking HDR photos with a script I wrote (for Linux... if you use Arch Linux, get mantiukhdr from the AUR). It is fun seeing how the photos turn out.
